ERICSSON MOLDOVA FOR LTE / 4G

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 15 June 2011 Release date- 14062011 - Today, June 14th, 2011 at Leogrand Convention Centre, Ericsson company - the world's leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators - introduced to Moldova audience its international experience in LTE/4G networks deployment and presented the benefits of 4G customer's experience for Moldcell mobile users.

LTE, or Long Term Evolution, is the global standard for the fourth generation of mobile networks (4G) supported by all major players in the industry. LTE offers the capacity and the speed to handle a rapid increase in data traffic with close to 5 billion mobile broadband subscriptions in 2016. LTE gives a superior user experience when it comes to stability, throughput, and latency. The increased capacity brings new and better services to users.

Marten MALMBERG, Head of Technology, Ericsson: '4G brings, first of all, a range of impressive opportunities for the communication speed, interactivity, on-line data transfer. Starting from this technology, the services from the area of business, mass media and social field (security, medical care, education, etc) are developed and continuously improved.' Today's LTE networks are able to provide speeds up to 100Mbps. However user experience may vary depending on location and present network load. Today 150 million people have LTE coverage and there will be more than a 100 LTE-ready devices (smartphones, tablets, modems) available this year. There are currently 43 LTE trials in operation. So far there have been 11 commercial LTE deployments and a further 44 additional launches are anticipated for 2011. In total, 113 operators in 46 countries have publicly committed to the technology.

Ericsson has an exciting technology journey in Moldova with mobile operator Moldcell, offering its support for the construction and operation of operator's 2G and 3G networks. Based on Ericsson solutions, the first 4G networks in the world were built - in the Northern and Baltic countries, USA, Germany, Japan, Australia and China. In the Republic of Moldova, Ericsson is close to Moldcell from the launch of the company till present, when the 4G core network is built.

Less than one month ago, on May 18th, Moldcell announced its readiness to commercially launch the network of fourth generation, during the ICT Summit organized in the framework of the week of telecommunications and information society. The operator demonstrated how it anticipates clients' expectations, offering them Internet at a speed that is 5 times higher in comparison to the speed available on the market at present. If the speed through ADSL under real conditions is maximum 15 Mbps, Moldcell proved during the presentation that 80-90 Mbps! is not a dream anymore, it is a reality. Thanks to the new technology, to download files, to surf the Internet, to watch movies in HD format is a pleasure that offers maximum comfort and liberty not to depend on fixed telephone line. The wonder of 4G communication from Moldcell was demonstrated live to the auditorium, being supported by 4G network constructed by the operator in partnership with Ericsson.

Sergiu GINDEA, Account Manager Ericsson Moldova: 'We are glad and proud of the fact that we managed to bring the next generation of mobile broadband in Moldova together with Moldcell, using quality and performance of Scandinavian equipment'.

For the press conference, Moldcell in partnership with Ericsson and Jurnal TV channel brought a new technological surprise. Using 4G network and the special device with LiveU application the first live TV report was broadcasted in HD format in front of the public. Jurnal TV reporter placed in the central park 'Stefan cel Mare' addressed in live regime its first congratulations on the historical day to the audience seated in Leogrand using just the video camera, Moldcell 4G modem and LiveU device and application. No cables, no additional mobile TV truck. The demo proved one more time the key-advantages of 4G technology: simple, fast, high quality and mobile.

?hiril GABURICI, General Manager Moldcell: 'Our purpose is to make technologies to simplify, offer comfort to Moldovan people and to serve the society. That's why we choose to show today an advanced solution that can help mass media business, bringing more mobility and speed. News production and society's information can change fully its picture, becoming more efficient and quick. ' It was a natural step for Moldcell to get ready for LTE network launch, as it is a part of Swedish-Finnish telecommunication group TeliaSonera that together with other companies has invented mobile telephony and has always stayed in front of all the technologies via creating and bringing the most advanced, intelligent solutions for the end-users. Moldcell 4G network built in Moldova is actually the first 4G live network in Moldova and the Balkans region. The operator is ready to launch more hotspots in Chisinau when LTE license will be issued. The 4G coverage will be gradually built to ensure the fastest internet experience existing at the moment in the world.

Oral YAMAN, Head of Sales Ericsson Moldova: 'Ericsson team is here to tell you more for the first LIVE LTE (4G) network in the North Balkans. Moldcell brings the country among the 17 in the world, that live the 4G speed and quality; a mobile experience that soon every citizen of Moldova could be offered. Now is the time that Moldcell and its customers must feel proud with Ericsson; when it comes to Mobile Broadband quality, no Moldovan citizen will be able to tell whether he is in Moldova or in a Nordic country, thanks to the new 4G network.' Note: Benefits of 4G network for consumers in the country Speed: 5 times faster than ADSL (downlink: >100 Mbps / uplink: >50 Mbps), the fastest mobile Internet technology currently available!
