Thai flood delays launch of Sony cameras, headphones
(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TOKYO, Oct. 20 -- (Kyodo) _ Sony Corp. said Thursday it will postpone the scheduled launch of its single-lens reflex cameras and headphones, as its manufacturing bases and product suppliers in Thailand have been affected by the devastating flooding.
Sony had planned to market two new models of its single-lens reflex cameras on Nov. 11 in Japan, but the launch date for the products is now up in the air.
For headphones, Sony will delay the launch to Dec. 10 from the earlier scheduled November in Japan, the major Japanese consumer electronics company said. The launch date for some models is undetermined.
Sony currently has suspended operations at two of its manufacturing plants in Thailand. One of the plants in Ayutthaya produces single-lens reflex cameras but has been halting output since Oct. 11 due to supply chain disruption and inundation damage, a company spokeswoman said.
Regarding the other plant which manufactures semiconductors, Sony has been halting operations since Oct. 14 and decided to stop output at least until Friday, she said.
