Ulticom Launches the "Ulticom Diameter Signaling Controller"

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ, Feb 16, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Today, Ulticom, the industry leader in signaling solutions, announces the availability of the Ulticom Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC). Designed to address the challenges arising from the explosion in mobile broadband usage, the Ulticom DSC provides Telecom Equipment Manufacturers and Mobile Network Operators with a critical tool to manage and optimize their packet core, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks.

Mobile data traffic is exploding and networks are struggling with traffic loads unimaginable just a few short years ago. Network Operators need solutions to tame this traffic growth by effectively routing and controlling traffic flow to assure stability and availability of the network. Aligning with emerging standards for the control of Diameter traffic and the optimization of control plane elements, the Ulticom DSC, provides a highly scalable, resilient and programmable software based solution.

Benefiting from Ulticom's decades of experience in network signaling and anchored by our globally deployed Signalware Diameter product, solution providers and network operators can rest assured; the Ulticom DSC will meet their exacting standards for reliability, interoperability and scalability. The Ulticom DSC reduces the burden of Diameter traffic management and load balancing, enabling solution providers to focus their efforts on the overall solution. Common deployment scenarios utilizing the Ulticom DSC include, but are not limited to the following: -- Deployable as an Advanced Load Balancer, the Ulticom DSC provides the front end to nodes such as a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) or Online/Offline Charging Server (OCS) in an IT style server-farm architecture. This scenario allows for 100% service availability, topology hiding and seamless capacity upgrades as subscriber demand increases.

-- The Ulticom DSC can be deployed as a Diameter Routing Agent (DRA) allowing a Mobile Network Operators to deploy multiple Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) nodes in their network in a scalable, resilient, and cost effective fashion.

-- To avoid interconnecting all of the Diameter signaling elements in the network, the Ulticom DSC can be deployed to provide Centralized Routing as a Relay and/or Proxy Agent. The Ulticom DSC in this situation greatly reduces the cost and complexity of managing the Diameter signaling infrastructure.

"The new reality of always-on, data centric devices and the consumer value shift from voice to connection driven data services, is generating a tremendous amount of Diameter signaling traffic in the LTE and IMS core networks," said Bruce Swail, President and CEO.

"Managing the Diameter signaling traffic and the associated infrastructure is going to be the next great challenge faced by Mobile Network Operators. This was a key factor in Ulticom's decision to develop the DSC, which we consider to be crucial in areas like policy control, converged charging, authentication, and subscriber data management." The Ulticom DSC is available today as a software solution on the Red Hat and CentOS Linux operating systems. Ulticom will be showcasing DSC along with the rest of the Signalware family of products at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 27-March 1st.
