BRIEF: New Haven police investigate armed robbery
NEW HAVEN, Jun 14, 2012 (New Haven Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Just after 3 a.m. Thursday, Officers Joshua Smereczynski and Christopher Lawrence rushed to the H&S Food-mart at 306 Whalley Ave. The clerk, Samsul Alam, had reported he'd been robbed.
Alam told the officers he had been behind the counter, and a bulletproof partition, when a black man with long dread-locks, a mask and a black handgun rushed into the store. The man scaled the partition and confronted Alam on the other side with the gun.
The clerk said he dropped to the floor as the robber took the cash from the register, before fleeing. The robber was described as standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall with an average build. He wore all black clothing and black or blue sneakers with white laces.
Officers are hoping that forensic evidence left behind, as well as the collected video surveillance images, will facilitate the perpetrator's capture.
