[June 29, 2012] Burglar caught in act by camera in Milford home, police say MILFORD, Jun 29, 2012 (New Haven Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The candid camera in this case caught an alleged burglar in the act, police said. The surveillance camera was in a city home from which cash and jewelry were taken on June 21, police said in a statement. Now the man whose image allegedly was captured by the video surveillance system is facing charges, police said. Michael Spangler, 34 of Milford is charged on a warrant with third-degree burglary and second-degree larceny in connection with the burglary and theft from the Housatonic Drive home, police said. Police apprehended Spangler today after stopping a vehicle he was a passenger in on Interstate 95 near the Exit 40 rest area, police said. While officers arrested him they found Spangler was "in possession of 105 prescription pills," police said in the statement. Spangler also gave police a false name -- that of a relative -- "attempting to elude apprehension," the statement said. In addition to the counts related to the burglary, Spangler also is charged with interfering with police, possession of narcotics, illegal possession of a prescription drug and refusal to be fingerprinted, the statement said. Spangler was bring held in lieu of a $50,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned this morning at Superior Court in Milford. Spangler also "is a suspect in other similar incidents and further arrests are expected," police said in the statement. In 2005, Spangler, then 27, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, suspended after 61/2 served, and five years of probation, as part of a plea agreement reached following a robbery at a pet store on Bull Hill Lane in Orange. At the time, Spangler had been convicted of first-degree robbery, fourth-degree larceny and violation of probation.
