PORTLAND, Maine -- A man wanted for bank robbery in Portland was nabbed by police near Cleveland on Wednesday, according to U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II.
Richard Gooding, 38, of Youngstown, Ohio, was taken into custody in the town of Lisbon by FBI agents from the agency's Cleveland office, Delahanty said in a news release.
Gooding allegedly held up a Bangor Savings Bank branch on Brighton Avenue on Tuesday morning. He escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was captured on video surveillance at the bank.
The arrest was based on a criminal complaint that was filed in federal court Wednesday morning in Portland, according to Delahanty.
Gooding is expected to face an extradition hearing in the Buckeye State before being returned to Maine to face robbery charges, Delahanty said.
