Area communities have seen an uptick in armed robberies over the past several months, but quick work and collaboration by officers last Friday led to the arrest of two suspects following an armed robbery in King.
Two people have now been arrested in connection with the armed robbery that occurred Friday afternoon at the CVS store on South Main Street in King.
Officers with the King Police Department have charged Eric Anthony Duncan, 25, of 102 Rengo Drive, King, with armed robbery, trafficking heroin/opium, and probation violation. He was jailed without the privilege of bond. Duncan is on probation for breaking and entering and larceny charges.
Also in custody is Bobby Joe Lawson, 31, of 1214 Edwards Farm Road, King, charged with aiding and abetting an armed robbery and probation violation. He was held without bond. He is on probation for driving while his license was revoked.
According to Police Chief Paula May, the armed robbery occurred around 1:45 p.m. at the CVS store Friday when a white male in his twenties threatened to shoot pharmacy personnel but fled when he was given the prescription pills he demanded. A "significant quantity" of pills were taken, May said; enough to warrant a trafficking charge. There were customers in the store at the time of the incident but no one was injured.
King police identified Duncan as the suspect and found and arrested him at Brookcliff Mobile Home Park at 11:42 p.m. that night. May said a couple of officers recognized him from video surveillance since they have dealt with him before.
Lawson, who is said to have provided transportation for Duncan, was arrested the following morning at 11:30 a.m. He was picked up on Edwards Farm Road.
"I'm really proud of the quick response ... Officers worked all through the night," May remarked.
Some county residents reported hearing communications over their police scanners about officers tracking suspects through the woods last Friday. May said a K-9 was used to track the suspects through nearby woods, where witnesses saw them headed, but they were not found then.
Chief May said she would like to thank Walnut Cove Police Chief Chad Williams, K-9 units from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and the N.C. Department of Corrections, deputies from the Stokes County Sheriff's Office and N.C. Probation and Parole for their prompt assistance with the case.
At the end of August, the King department responded to a report of an armed robbery attempt at the Bojangles on South Main Street in King. Two weeks prior to that incident, a man robbed First Citizens Bank in King. No weapon was visible. Chief May said no arrests have been made in those recent robbery cases.
