Vidtel Launches First Native WebRTC Gateway to Enterprise Video Conferencing Infrastructure (H.264)

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Nov. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Today Vidtel announced a groundbreaking addition to its gateway service: The built-in ability to connect WebRTC-enabled browsers to enterprise video conferencing infrastructure. Vidtel is the first to bridge WebRTC browsers with 3rd party video conferencing infrastructure such as Cisco, Polycom, or Vidtel's own MeetMe service without the need for plugins.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20111104/MM00743LOGO) WebRTC is an open, freely licensable technology to enable rich, high-quality, real-time audio and video capabilities in the browser itself. WebRTC is also secure and anonymous (unlike software that requires a buddy or contact).

Vidtel's WebRTC implementation lets anyone simply open a browser and enter into a video conferencing session with enterprise systems (SIP, H.323) as well as web/client-based systems (Skype, Google Talk or other WebRTC endpoints). No downloads or registrations needed. Now the potential exists to tie together billions of browsers with millions of standards-based video conferencing endpoints.

"Vidtel just made WebRTC an option for every video solution out there," said Dave Michels, Principal Analyst at TalkingPointz. "Vidtel was already a leader in interconnecting video islands, but this solution will open video silos to just about every desktop, tablet, and mobile device with a browser. The service effectively integrates the hype and promise of WebRTC with established video solutions." "As a Vidtel partner, we're getting out in front of the pack with the WebRTC-enhanced Vidtel Gateway incorporated into own bridging solutions. Usage can be limitless as people can seamlessly dial in from any WebRTC-enabled browser. Our enterprise customers with installed Cisco Codian or Polycom RMX bridges can also get more bang for their buck, easily extending the use of these systems to any customer or employee with a browser, " said Brad Johnston, Solutionz COO.

Today's announced service is an enhancement to the existing Vidtel carrier-grade gateway service connecting H.323, SIP, Skype and Google Talk endpoints. It is available in beta as a monthly subscription through select Vidtel channel partners and is expected to be generally available by the end of the year. The initial version is supported in Chrome browser versions 23 or higher.

About Vidtel: Vidtel is a pioneer of any-to-any cloud video conferencing services. Our easy-to-use service provides compatibility between a diverse set of business-grade SIP and H.323 (e.g., Polycom, Cisco, LifeSize), WebRTC browsers and consumer-grade video endpoints. Vidtel enables enterprises of any size to affordably experience the productivity of business-quality video conferencing between dispersed employees, partners and customers. Vidtel is located in Silicon Valley in Sunnyvale, California.
