Sheriff continues to get leads on Kelliher bank robbery

KELLIHER, Dec 12, 2012 (The Bemidji Pioneer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp said Tuesday he's confident the suspects in Monday's bank robbery here will be caught.

Several leads came into law enforcement Monday evening and Tuesday, and Hodapp said he believes it's a matter of time before arrests are made.

"They knew what sides of the bank had video surveillance and which ones didn't," the sheriff said Tuesday. "Obviously, they spent time casing it." A 911 call at 2:27 p.m. Monday reported a suspect brandished a shotgun at an employee at the First State Bank of Bigfork in Kelliher.


The suspect, who stole an undisclosed amount of money, was working in tandem with a driver, according to officials.

No one was injured in the incident, but it prompted Kelliher School to lock down for a period of time after the robbery.

According to the sheriff's office, the suspect entered the bank wearing white one-piece Tyvek coveralls, black tennis shoes, black gloves with rubber grips and white writing, and a white plastic mask believed to be the same featured in the 1978 horror movie "Halloween." The suspect was carrying a large black bag, according to the press release.

The suspect left the bank on foot heading east.

Authorities describe the suspect as about 6 feet tall with a slim build. Hodapp said they are "pretty sure" the suspect is a man based on the person's build.
