Construction will be split into two phases. The existing ED is located in the south end of the construction zone and will remain functional throughout the completion of the first phase.

Phase One: Phase 1 will include the north part of the building. This includes the auditorium that is being demolished to create the new Nursing Station, as well as the EAU bedrooms, Less Acute Waiting area, and additional Interview rooms. The proposed floor slab at the area of the present auditorium will be approximately 9 ft. above the lower level of the auditorium. The new framing will consist of a composite steel deck supported on structural steel framing - open web steel joists and steel beams. The new floor framing will be supported on existing reinforced concrete structure. Some modifications to the existing structure supporting the new slab are required. All electrical systems will be operational during Phase 1 construction. All mechanical systems such as ductwork, piping and plumbing will be demolished in Phase 1 and replaced with new systems.

This Phase is required to be completed and functional prior to commencing any demolition in the second phase.

Phase Two: Phase 2 will include the south part of the building starting from grid line "S". This encompasses the entire existing ER unit, including the new Acute waiting area, Interview rooms, Triage room, Treatment room, Offices, EAU Lounge and Staff Lounge. The existing Isolation/Negative Pressure room will remain in its current location. Negative pressure will be functional in the single occupancy patient room (constructed in Phase 1) to accommodate infectious patients during Phase 2 construction.
