Dec 31, 2012 (The Sun News (Myrtle Beach - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A 19-year-old man told Myrtle Beach police he was threatened with a gun and assaulted during a robbery attempt by several men in the parking lot of Broadway at the Beach, according to a police report.
The victim told officers he was sitting in his girlfriend's vehicle in the parking lot near Capriz restaurant about 8:15 p.m. Sunday when six or seven men walked up to the vehicle and one man opened the passenger's door and asked if the victim hit the man's brother, police said.
The victim told police the man then punched him in the face then went to the driver's side and sat down in the vehicle, according to the report. The victim was waiting on his girlfriend, who was at work.
The victim said the man pointed a gun at him and demanded money so the victim handed over his wallet, but he did not have any money in it, according to the report. The victim said the gunman gave the wallet back and then searched the console of the vehicle while another man searched the glove box.
The second man kicked the victim in the arm and the group of men ran away from the area, according to the report. Officers planned to retrieve video surveillance of the incident from a nearby business.
