BRIEF: Police seeking woman who robbed Farmingdale convenience store at gunpoint

Jan 28, 2013 (Bangor Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- FARMINGDALE, Maine -- A hunt is underway for a woman who held up a Farmingdale convenience store at gunpoint on Sunday evening, according to police.

The woman entered the Circle K on Maine Avenue while other customers were in the store but, as soon as she was the only one in the establishment, brandished a handgun, according to Capt. Dan Davies of the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office.


The suspect made threats to the clerk as she demanded money from the cash register, according to Davies. The employee handed the robber an undisclosed amount of cash before she fled the scene.

The clerk, who was not injured, notified police as soon as the robber left the store, Davies said. Sheriff's deputies, along with state police and officers from Gardiner and Hallowell attempted to locate the woman.

A K-9 unit from the sheriff's office tracked the suspect to a neighboring parking lot, but the woman was not located, Davies said.

The robber, who was captured on video surveillance, is described as white and was wearing a dark winter jacket and blue jeans. A hood hid her features.

Anyone with information on the robbery should contact the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office at 623-3614.
