Police: Victim of Allentown iPhone robbery charged with stealing phone

Feb 01, 2013 (The Morning Call (Allentown - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A teen who reported being robbed of the iPhone he was trying to sell on Craigslist earlier this month was charged last week with stealing the phone from a woman, according to court records.


Addin Junior Rivera, 18, of Allentown, was charged by summons with theft for taking the iPhone from the K-mart in Whitehall Township on Jan. 5, according to court records. The phone was taken from him 10 days later in an Allentown robbery, authorities said.

According to a criminal complaint: Whitehall police were contacted on Jan. 6 by Jasmine Vasquez, who told them someone took her iPhone 4 from her a day earlier after she set it down in the layaway department at the Kmart on MacArthur Road.

Through the investigation and reviewing video surveillance, police determined that Rivera was at the layaway counter and took the phone. He then left the store with the phone, which was valued at $500.

Allentown police said Jaylin J. Huggins responded to a Craigslist ad for the iPhone on Jan. 15. Huggins met Rivera and his mother to buy the smart phone near Second and Chew streets in the city, but instead he pulled a handgun and took the phone and ran, police said.

Rivera and his mother gave police a description and witnesses told police they saw the man run behind an apartment in the 300 block of Ridge Avenue. Huggins admitted to the robbery and said he threw the gun, which he said was a toy, into a backyard, police said.

Huggins was charged with that robbery and three other robberies that originated with Craigslist ads he either responded to or placed, Allentown police said. Rivera is awaiting a hearing date next month.
