Two suspects jailed in weekend elevator attack at Strip hotel

Feb 19, 2013 (Las Vegas Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- An argument that erupted early Saturday morning in a Las Vegas Strip hotel elevator led to a stabbing and landed two men in jail, according to arrest reports released Tuesday.


The suspects -- Trent Wilcox, 25, and Carlos Heredia, 23 -- were arrested in connection with attempted murder, police said. They remain in custody in the Clark County Detention Center without bail, according to jail records.

The incident happened about 2 a.m. Saturday inside an elevator at The Hotel, a Mandalay Bay property.

The Metro Police arrest reports allege the following events: A husband and wife were in an elevator, attempting to head back to their room, when Wilcox and Heredia entered, acting extremely drunk.

The wife said the suspects were trying to intimidate them, leading both parties to exchange words. When the elevator stopped on the 31st floor, Wilcox and Heredia stepped out momentarily, but the argument continued.

At that point, Heredia blocked the elevator door with his foot and grabbed what appeared to be a knife from his pocket while Wilcox re-entered.

The suspects told the couple they intended to follow them to their floor. The wife told them to leave and tried to push them, but Wilcox grabbed her husband in a chokehold and shoved him to the ground.

Heredia then repeatedly struck the husband with the knife and, in the process, accidentally struck Wilcox, as well.

Security officers arrived soon after and took Heredia and Wilcox into custody.

The male victim had suffered at least 10 puncture wounds, but he is expected to survive.

Medical personnel also transported Wilcox to University Medical Center, where he had to be restrained and sedated after kicking nurses.

Police received video surveillance from the hotel, which seemed to corroborate the wife's version of events, the report states.

Wilcox is a Las Vegas resident, but the arrest report lists Heredia's address as unknown.
