Feb 25, 2013 (Centre Daily Times (State College - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A freshman Penn State football player has been charged with criminal mischief stemming from an incident in November at a campus residence hall.
Penn State police said Nittany Lions running back Akeel Lynch faces a misdemeanor charge for allegedly kicking in a window at Shulze Hall.
Video surveillance footage shows a man later identified as Lynch apparently waiting to get into the building at about 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16, according to a criminal complaint filed Friday.
Police said the video shows Lynch kick and break a lobby window. He is then let into the building by a female waiting inside.
Lynch later admitted to breaking the window and said he was trying to "scare" a friend waiting inside the residence hall, police alleged in the complaint.
Replacement of the window and clean-up costs totaled $938.
A preliminary hearing for the 18-year-old student athlete is scheduled for March 27.
Lynch, a freshman who played high school football in Athol Springs, N.Y., was a three-star recruit and a member of the 2012 recruiting class, according to Rivals.com.
