TMCnet SIP Phones Week in Review

SIP phones serve as a more flexible, expandable and reliable way to deploy users’ SIP-based telephony. The benefits of SIP are plenty, and are especially compelling in today’s business environment – and economy – where every dollar holds its value. A SIP phone system is a perfect and simple solution for small businesses or even larger SIP endpoint deployments.

This week in SIP phone news, it was revealed that Grandstream Networks (News - Alert), a company specializing in IP video/telephony and IP video surveillance solutions, had its entire line of IP phones and ATAs certified by Callcentric, an esteemed provider of Internet telephony. With this new certification, businesses and consumers alike will be able to use their Callcentric VoIP services to now easily and simply use any Grandstream GXP Enterprise IP phone.

“Certifying Grandstream’s complete line of IP phones and ATAs adds another layer of customer service by giving their customers many phone options to meet their needs. We are pleased to enter into this joint relationship to bring affordable and flexible VoIP to the desktop,” said Grandstream CEO David Li.

In other news, Etherspeak, an esteemed IP communications provider, recently launched its cloud-based voice backup service – ShadowVox – to provide SIP trunking customers with a “stand-by” phone system in any emergency case, such as an unplanned outage or unpreventable disaster. ShadowVox becomes activated when a company faces site failure, where Etherspeak’s SIP-based phone calls are then re-directed to the customer’s iPhone, iPad or Android (News - Alert) device. Additional ShadowVox cloud-based offerings include fax, IM and conference bridging.

Wrapping up the week is an interesting account of the slow but sure death of traditional landline phones. Where we once lived in an age where wireless phones didn’t even exist, now it’s showing that fewer and fewer individuals are using expensive landlines (POTS), as they don’t feature as much technology and are simply not as convenient compared to what is offered by SIP phones. One such provider of SIP phones, Panasonic (News - Alert), shows exactly why this is the case here.
