TMCnet SIP Phones Week in Review

SIP phones serve as a more flexible, expandable and reliable way to deploy users’ SIP-based telephony. The benefits of SIP are plenty, and are especially compelling in today’s business environment – and economy – where every dollar holds its value.

A SIP phone system is a perfect and simple solution for small businesses or even larger SIP endpoint deployments.

This week in SIP phone news, Panasonic (News - Alert) received quite a compliment for its esteemed KX-TGP500 Wireless SIP phone. The company has always taken pride in its powerful line of Cordless SIP phones, and this simply solidifies their position as a leader in the space. Fred Wilson, who wrote for Business Insider, said that “if you have a VoIP provider and are looking for a new SIP phone, I strongly recommend this Panasonic phone.”

Wilson, on the prowl for the perfect phone handsets, found it in this Panasonic solution, which matched perfectly to reviews of the system found via the Internet and other impressed and satisfied customers. Quite a win for Panasonic, indeed!

In other news, it was revealed that Telstra (News - Alert), an Australia-based provider of mobile phones, mobile devices, home phones and broadband Internet, is looking to expand its VoIP services for businesses to consumers, even going so far as to offer it to on mobile phones.

The company currently boasts a mobile broadband network of over 7,000 base stations covering more than 2.1 million square kilometers, representing an impressive 99 percent of the Australian population. This move is anticipated to serve as a reflection of mobile service providers increasingly integrating VoIP services “without cutting themselves out of the loop,” according to a recent related article.

“Whether wireless service providers like it or not, consumers are already using VoIP. In choosing to provide the service, Telstra is accepting the inevitable and trying to generate some revenue from a growing market,” the piece elaborated.

Wrapping up the week is news of TelcoDepot (News - Alert).com introducing its new Quintrum T1/PRI Gateways for Response Point for enhanced VoIP calling. Introducing this solution perfectly addresses issues and challenges commonly faced by emergence of digital consumer devices, including PCs, PC peripherals, control devices and consumer devices.

"This Quintum (News - Alert) gateway product supports up to 23 simultaneous PRI calls. This added flexibility makes the product the ideal match for small and medium business (SMB) requirements on a digital telephone network connection," said Yaron Ram, principal at TelcoDepot.
