TMCnet SIP Phones Week in Review

SIP phones serve as a more flexible, expandable and reliable way to deploy users’ SIP-based telephony. The benefits of SIP are plenty, and are especially compelling in today’s business environment – and economy – where every dollar holds its value. A SIP phone system is a perfect and simple solution for small businesses or even larger SIP endpoint deployments.

This week in SIP phone news, Panasonic (News - Alert) launched its new, unique line of eco-friendly phones in India. The phones boast new features such as One Touch Eco mode, lower power consumption, extended talk time, and a standby power consumption mode, which also consumes less power. Even more, the power failure talk system enables users to continue their conversation and ensure smooth operation even during power failures.

In other news, Panasonic also revealed that its line of SIP phones had been newly certified interoperable with Edgewater’s Plug & Dial solution, which works to provide interoperability testing for multi-vendor VoIP networking environments and automated setup of a variety of brands of SIP-based IP phones, as explained in a statement. Not only will this certification help reduce operating expenses, but it also improves the end-user experience for service providers delivering cloud communications services. Specifically, the Panasonic phones that have received certification on EdgeView version 11.7.2 are the KX-UT113B, KX-UT123B, KX-UT133B and the KX-UT136B.

“We have used Edgewater’s EdgeMarc ESBCs and Panasonic’s SIP phones independently for some time and have been very satisfied,” explained Chris Flenniken, Sales and Marketing director at Austin Telephone Company.  “However, the certification of interoperability will greatly simplify installation and ongoing maintenance.”

Wrapping up this week, IntelePeer unveiled its new CoreCloud UC SIP trunking service, which combines best-of-breed voice quality and HD audio with the high strength protection of four kilobyte, public key encryption to SIP trunk security. Further, by integrating Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (SRTP) encryption, signaling and multimedia content are fully protected to ensure both the privacy and integrity of communications media. By advancing its security options, enterprises can reduce costs normally associated with dedicated data access, such as T1 circuit or MPLS network for their SIP trunking connections. This in turn enables them to securely route communications over their existing corporate data connections.

“This is really making the cloud a viable delivery mechanism for the communications connectivity piece and being able to do it in a secure way,” said Charles Studt (News - Alert), VP of Product Management at IntelePeer.

That’s going to do it this week here for the SIP Phones Community. To see the latest new in the SIP Phone (News - Alert) industry next week, be sure to check back same time, same place – only here at TMCnet!
