CalAmp partners with Caterpillar

CalAmp Corp. (News - Alert), a provider of wireless products, services and solutions, recently announced that it has signed a development agreement with Caterpillar Inc., a heavy equipment manufacturer. According to the terms of the agreement, CalAmp will provide Vanguard mobile wireless broadband router to enable vital data communications for equipment deployed around the globe.

Uniquely designed for operation on both GSM and CDMA networks, Vanguard offers more choices        and redundancy in carrier networks. This ready to deploy broadband router enables wireless data connectivity over public networks at high speeds for both fixed and mobile applications. For fixed applications, Vanguard provides reliable connectivity for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Ethernet web cameras or any other Ethernet or serial device. For mobile applications, this intelligent broadband router incorporates an optional highly sensitive 16-channel GPS receiver and an intelligent algorithm that offers outstanding receive sensitivity and improved accuracy, integrity and availability of GPS signals – even when the vehicle is off. An optional, built-in Wi-Fi access point also allows your tethered devices to remain connected even when you leave the vehicle.

"Robust and reliable, Vanguard offers ubiquitous operation and carrier network redundancy, as well as broad versatility for connecting both remote fixed and mobile assets to enterprise applications," said Mike Zachan, Vice President and General Manager of CalAmp's Wireless Networks business. "We are looking forward to helping Caterpillar realize its broad objectives for enhanced services and product innovation."

Meanwhile, CalAmp Corp. recently introduced a demand response monitoring and management platform for the smart grid. The company describes its new product, CalAmp Energy Management and Control, as a comprehensive, scalable, load-control solution. The platform comprises sophisticated analytics software, gateway hardware, remote device management, and a unique home control application. CalAmp EMC (News - Alert) comprises a command-and-control core for creating, testing, executing, and fine-tuning a variety of load-management programs—and simultaneously activating existing load-control switches and new two-way devices.
